Low pressure casting refers to a casting method in which the mold is generally placed above a sealed crucible, and compressed air is introduced into the crucible to create low pressure (0.06-0.15 MPa) on the surface of the molten metal, causing the metal liquid to rise from the riser to fill the mold and control solidification. This casting method has good shrinkage and dense casting structure, making it easy to cast large and complex thin-walled castings without the need for a riser. The metal yield reaches 95%. No pollution, easy to achieve automation. But the equipment cost is high and the production efficiency is low. Generally used for casting non-ferrous alloys.

Low pressure casting is the earliest anti gravity casting technology, which began to be used in industrial production in the 1940s. Nowadays, low-pressure casting is mainly used to produce aluminum and magnesium alloy parts, such as automotive wheel hubs, cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, pistons, missile casings, impellers, guide vanes, and other castings with complex shapes and high quality requirements in the automotive industry. When using low-pressure casting to produce cast steel, such as cast steel wheels, special refractory materials need to be used for the lifting pipe. Low pressure casting can also be applied to small copper alloy castings, such as pipe fittings, faucets in bathrooms, etc. This technology has been industrialized in foreign countries.
